Shopify alternatives when you only sell one thing

You sell one thing. Shopify can feel like a whole shop built around a single product, and you pay for the shop every year.

There are cheaper ways to take the money. Here are three, with what each one gives you and what it costs in Australian dollars. The figures for Shopify and Stripe were checked on 15 October 2026.

A Stripe payment link

Stripe lets you make a link to its own checkout page. The page shows your product's name, one image and a short description, then the card form.

  • Making a link costs nothing.
  • Stripe takes its card fee on each sale: 1.65% + 30c for an Australian card.

The link is only the checkout. Your photos, sizes and answers to buyers' questions have to live somewhere else, like your own website or your Instagram.

It suits you if you already have a website or a following, and the product needs little explaining.

A Shopify store

Shopify gives you a full shop, with themes, an app store and room for as many products as you like.

  • Its cheapest full store, Basic, is A$600 for the year paid up front, or A$672 if you pay monthly.
  • The card fee is 1.7% + 30c on each online sale through Shopify Payments.

Pick it when you sell many different products, or one product sells more than A$11,760 in a year. We show that sum in What Shopify costs when you sell one product.

A gem on Trove Grove

A gem is one product on its own page, with its checkout built in. It holds your photos, choices like size or colour, and the postage you set for each country. It can sit on your own domain. Buyers pay by card, and the money goes into your own Stripe account.

  • A$12 for the year, paid once.
  • 5% of the item price when it sells, and none of the postage.
  • Stripe's card fee on each sale, the same as with a payment link.

It fits when you have one product and want a page that does the selling, without running a store.

Which one to pick

If you already have somewhere people find you, start with a payment link. It costs nothing to try.

If you have one product and nowhere to show it, a gem gives it a page for A$12.

If you sell more than 20 different products, or one product sells more than A$11,760 in a year, Shopify is the better choice.

Put your product on its own page

A gem is one product with its own page and checkout, at A$12.00 for the year. We take 5% of the item price when it sells, and none of the postage. Applying takes a minute, and a person reads every application.

The next 10 sellers get their first gem's year free with the code FIRSTGEM, typed on the payment page, until 31 December 2026.
